After the construction of the Lazika port on the Georgia's Black Sea coast metal raw materials prices will dramatically lower, Georgian Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili said on Tuesday while visiting the Rustmetal enterprise.

The prime minister said that now the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi accept vessels, which can accommodate a maximum of 250 containers.

"We are building a port in Lazika, which can handle ships with large displacement and which will have 3000 - 5000 containers. This will greatly increase the Georgia's capacity to receive goods, including metal," Merabishvili said.

The Prime Minister also wondered about the production process and working conditions at the factory.

The factory manufactures steel structures for industrial and urban development. The plant employed 200 people.

The plant is involved in the construction of several large projects, including flyovers and bridges in Tbilisi, Tbilisi bypass railway and hydro power in Gudauri.

Vano Merabishvili also visited the Heidelberg cement company, which has operated in Georgia since 2006. It owns three cement and two concrete plants, which employ 1200 people.
