Former culture minister of the Republic of Ichkeria Akhmed Zakayev, hiding from the Russian officials in London, intends to find out the circumstances of the death of his former bodyguard Dukvakha Dushuev.

Dushuev was part of an armed group, eliminated by the Georgian Special Forces in the Lopota gorge near the border with Russia.

"I know that Dukvakha Dushuev, having political asylum in Great Britain, was not in Russia and lived in the Pankisi Gorge, Georgia for the last six months," Zakayev told Georgian TV channel TV9. "It is unclear how he joined this group. According to the official version of Georgian law enforcement bodies, the group had subversive intentions when they crossed the Georgian border."

He added that a special committee has been already established. Together with the Georgian forces, it must investigate the causes of the incident. "Regardless of whether the Georgian side will cooperate with us or not, we have the appropriate resources to the reveal the truth. Afterwards, the Chechen legitimate government will express its position.

Dushuev was an active participant in the first Chechen campaign guarding Zakayev. In early 2000 when its commander went abroad, Dushuev was captured by federal forces, but was later pardoned.

A special operation in the Lopota gorge to capture the saboteurs began on August 28. Around 11 militants were killed the Interior Ministry said.
