Another quake hits Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province

An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale took place near the cities of Varzagan and Ahar in the East Azerbaijan Province of Iran yesterday evening, FARS news agency reported.

An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale took place near the cities of Varzagan and Ahar in the East Azerbaijan Province of Iran yesterday evening, FARS news agency reported.

According to the report, the earthquake occurred at 7:28 local time. Four more earthquakes shook the region until this morning.

No dead or injured are reported as a result of earthquake.

On Aug.11, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocked Iran's East Azerbaijan Province, killing more than 300 people and injuring about 2500.

There have been 3200 various earthquakes in the region so far since the strong earthquake. Last time a strong earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was recorded on Nov.7. The earthquake then injured 50 people. Majority of them were schoolchildren.
