The Georgian government will transfer 130,000 Lari ($1=1.66 Lari) to the family of Zviad Gamsakhurdia, Georgia's first president.

Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri told the media that the Georgian parliament approved a law on social security for the first president's family in 2002.

"This envisages payments for protection, public utilities, telephone conversations, etc.," he said. "Around 130,000 Lari were allocated for this purpose in the state budget for 2003. But financial crisis at the time and the budget prevented the fulfillment of these obligations."

Manana Archvadze-Gamsakhurdia appealed to the Finance Ministry in December last year and urged the transfer of the funds.

"We have discussed the issue and decided to meet this obligation in accordance with the law," Khaduri said.

The minister stressed that these are 130,000 Lari which the Georgian government did not pay in 2003.
