Kazakhstan and India to discuss cooperation on nuclear energy

Issues of cooperation regarding nuclear energy will be discussed during the meeting of the president of the National Atomic company “Kazatomprom” Vladimir Shkolnik with the secretary of the Nuclear Energy Department of India K.A.M. Sinha and the executive director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India ltd. (NPCIL) Ashok Chauhan.

Issues of cooperation regarding nuclear energy will be discussed during the meeting of the president of the National Atomic company "Kazatomprom" Vladimir Shkolnik with the secretary of the Nuclear Energy Department of India K.A.M. Sinha and the executive director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India ltd. (NPCIL) Ashok Chauhan.

As announced in a company report shared on Tuesday, the meeting will be held within the scope of the official visit of the minister of foreign affairs of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrisov to India.

In particular they will discuss uranium deliveries to India. Cooperation in power production between the two countries began in 2009. During the official visit of the president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to India "Kazatomprom" JSC "NAC and NPCIL signed a memorandum on mutual understanding aimed at co-operation between the two companies on a broad scope of issues including uranium extraction and delivery, as well as the delivery of Kazakh uranium in the form of fuel pellets and gathers for Indian nuclear power production and personnel training.

JSC NАО Kazatomprom is Kazakhstan's national operator for the export of uranium and its compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants, special equipment, technologies and materials with dual purposes. Its main activities are geological exploration, the extraction of uranium, the manufacturing of nuclear fuel cycle products and constructing materials as well as power industry, science, social security and personnel training.
