Seven killed in suicide attack on Afghan traditional game

Seven people were killed Wednesday when a suicide bomber targeted a sports gathering in northern Afghanistan, official said, DPA reported.

The incident took place in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province during a buzkashi match, Amanuddin Quraishi, the district governor, said.

Buzkashi is a traditional sport played on horseback, with the headless carcass of a calf replacing a ball.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The suicide bomber walked up to the crowd watching the game and detonated his vest, Quraishi told dpa.

He said the victims included district police chief Abdul Qayyum Ibrahimi, his son and his father Asal Ibrahimi.

Qayyum Ibrahimi is the brother of parliament speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi.
