Azerbaijan, Baku, May 6 / Trend R.Hafizoglu /

Turkey will continue to develop nuclear energy in the country, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said on Monday, Anadolu agency reported.

According to Yildiz, the construction of nuclear power plants in Turkey will reduce the country's demand for gas by more than $ 7.2 billion a year.

He also added the government's plans include the construction of nuclear power plants in Turkey by local engineers.

According to the Minister, the privatization of the nuclear power industry in Turkey is not planned, but preliminary work on the denationalization of nuclear power plants in the country is subsequently scheduled.

The first nuclear power plant "Akkuyu" in Turkey will be built according to the Russian project that includes the construction of four VVER-1200power units. The agreement on the construction of the station was signed in May 2010.

The capacity of each unit will be 1,200 MW, while total capacity - 4800 MW. It is assumed that the units are to be built in sequence with intervals of one year.
