Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Wednesday that presence of aliens is the root cause of instability in Afghanistan as well as the entire region, IRNA reported.

Boroujerdi made the remarks in a meeting with the UN special envoy for Afghanistan Yan Kubish.

Restoration of stability and tranquility to Afghanistan helps bolster sustainable security in the region, he said.

A stable and calm Afghanistan is of prime importance for the countries of the region, he said, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran spares no efforts to help restore security to Afghanistan and implement development projects there.

Referring to aliensˈ inability to restore security and stability to Afghanistan, he said the US and its allies came into Afghanistan to strengthen security in the region but they failed to do so and wave of insecurity have engulfed the entire region.

It is incumbent upon the neighboring countries to contribute to the fight against drug trafficking and restoration of stability and tranquility to Afghanistan, Boroujerdi said.

The UN envoy, for his part appreciated Iranˈs support for the Afghan people and said the Iranian government and people have rendered humanitarian aid to the Afghan people and sheltered millions of Afghan refugees.

Highlighting the UN performance in restoring durable security to Afghanistan, he said to attain the goal all neighboring states should cooperate to this end.
