Saudi Arabia's private sector plans to open a direct maritime transportation route between the Gulf country and Morocco in North Africa to promote trade exchanges, Al Sharq Al Awsat newspaper reported on Sunday.

Saudi Arabia's private sector plans to open a direct maritime transportation route between the Gulf country and Morocco in North Africa to promote trade exchanges, Al Sharq Al Awsat newspaper reported on Sunday.

The new route plan came after the recent announcement by the Moroccan government to build a 100-hectare Saudi Industrial City in the capital Rabat, Xinhua reported.

Bilateral trade between the two countries reached 2 billion U.S. dollars in 2011, doubling the volume in 2000, with Morocco exporting 260 million dollars worth of goods to Saudi Arabia and 1. 75 billion dollars worth of goods the other way.

Also, Saud Arabia's investments in Morocco exceeded 600 million dollars in 2011.
