Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and the Senior Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Minister for Faith and Communities of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Baroness Saeeda Warsi discussed the state and prospects of Uzbek-British dialogue as well as topical international and regional problems on June 12, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

According to the report, the sides noted the positive dynamics of bilateral relations, including the development of inter-ministerial and inter-parliamentary relations.

Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom have given priority to strengthening cooperation in trade, economic and investment spheres.

In this context, the forthcoming session of the Uzbek-British Council on Trade and Industry scheduled this year with the participation of representatives of business circles and leading scientific and educational institutions of the two countries, presents a real opportunity to launch new joint high-tech projects in various areas of the economy.

The talks were also attended by the British ambassador to Uzbekistan George Edgar. As reported, Baroness Warsi arrived on a working visit to Uzbekistan yesterday.

On June 12, Warsi arrived in Khiva, where she met with local officials and explored the city.

Baroness Warsi met with the First Deputy Head of Administration of the Khorezm region Shakarzhon Huzhaniezova and discussed the region's economic development, agriculture, environment and tourism. She also met with local craftsmen and attended a workshop for the production of carpets created with the support of the British Council.

The schedule of the visit of the First Deputy Minister of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs also includes negotiations with members of the government and the parliament of Uzbekistan.

Baroness Warsi was appointed to her post in September 2012. Previously, she held the position of the Chairman of the British Conservative Party, and is currently a member of the House of Lords.

As a minister at the British Foreign Office, Baroness Warsi oversees the development of relations with Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the countries of Central Asia, human rights, cooperation with international organisations and the International Criminal Court, as well as all aspects related to the activities of the British Foreign Office in the House of Lords.

Baroness Warsi visited Uzbekistan for the first time in April 2012 as a minister without portfolio.
