UNESCO made a decision to remove the Bagrati Cathedral in Kutaisi (Georgia) from the list of world cultural heritage sites, a statement of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia said on Wednesday.

This decision was made at the 37th session of the UNESCO.

However, at the session the Gelati Monastery and historical monuments of Mtskheta were left on the list of endangered world cultural heritage sites.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee asks to change the boundaries of the monuments, and in the future to present only Gelati for inclusion into the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage.

"UNESCO expresses its goodwill towards Gelati and asks Georgia to document the universal importance of Gelati for re-submission, however, the committee does not guarantee that Gelati will not be removed from the list of world cultural heritage sites," a statement of the Georgian Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection said.

The delegation of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, headed by the Deputy Minister Marine Mizandari participated at the 37th session of UNESCO, held in Cambodia.
