The capabilities of Lithuanian companies to develop business in Uzbekistan were considered during Uzbek-Lithuanian intergovernmental commission's meeting, held yesterday in Vilnius, a source in Uzbekistan's governmental circles told Trend.

Lithuanian companies working in the field of information technologies, agriculture, provisions supply, construction materials production, transport and medical services were the focus of discussion at the meeting.

According to the source, the Lithuanian delegation also drew attention to wide opportunities for cooperation in the field of transport. During the meeting, Uzbekistan was offered to use the services of strategically important port of Klaipeda, Lithuania's transport and logistics infrastructure for cargo transportations through East-West corridor.

The commission noted that the economic cooperation between Lithuania and Uzbekistan is becoming more active: in 2012, bilateral trade turnover grew by 57 percent - to 40.6 million euros, which is the highest rate in the last decade.

During the work of bilateral commission, the sides expressed willingness of both countries to continue to strengthen and develop economic and trade relations.

The work of the intergovernmental commission was attended by representatives of the Lithuanian ministries of economy, health care, agriculture, transport, education and science, as well as the representatives of Standardization Department, the Confederation of Industrialists, the Association of Industry and Crafts, JSC Lithuanian Railways, Klaipeda State Seaport Authority.

Uzbekistan's delegation included representatives of the ministries of healthcare, foreign affairs, agriculture and water resources, standardization, investment agency and representatives of enterprises.
