Presidential candidate from United National Georgia Party David Barkadze met with Senator John McCain within his visit to U.S.

The main topic of the meeting was Georgian-Russian relations and the situation in Georgia's breakaway regions, the party's press service told Trend on Thursday.

The presidential candidate from United National Georgia and the American Senator also discussed the domestic political situation in Georgia and presidential election in the country scheduled for late October.

Barkadze met with U.S Assistant Secretary of State Eric Rubin.

The representative of U.S State Department said that his country regards the upcoming presidential election in Georgia as an opportunity to achieve political stability and approval of a multiparty system.

"These elections are very significant for strengthening democracy in Georgia and its Euro-Atlantic integration," Rubin stressed.
