Minister: Some 90 per cent of cyber-attacks in Azerbaijan come from abroad

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 2

By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

Some 90 per cent of the cyber-attacks in Azerbaijan come from abroad, Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, Ali Abbasov said on Dec. 2.

Abbasov made the remarks at the conference 'International cooperation on cybersecurity: problems and prospects' held in Azerbaijani capital of Baku.

Some part of these attacks is supported by individual governments, the minister said. But he did not name those governments.

Abbasov went on to say that Azerbaijan is conducting works on provision of the cyber security. A law is being developed on this issue. Aside from that, the law 'On information security', adopted in late 90s, also needs to be updated.

The minister said that Azerbaijan is fighting cyber-attacks at two levels as part of provision of cybersecurity.

The first level is the legal level - the Justice Ministry, public prosecution bodies and other authorities are dealing with this level. The second is the technological level - it covers operators and companies engaged in cyber-services. They should use the systems of detection of cyber-attacks' sources and increase the systems' security.

Improvement of legislation on fighting cyber-crimes will help distribute roles in this fight, as well as to improve its efficiency.
