By Umid Niayesh, Saeed Isayev - Trend: Iran looks to establish proper dialogue with Saudi Arabia, spokeswoman of Iran's foreign ministry Marziyeh Afkham said, IRINN reported on Dec. 3.
"Saudi Arabia's position in the region is important, and the dialogue will help to solve some of the differences between the countries," she said at the press conference in Tehran.
With regard to previous reports on Iran's FM Mohammad Javad Zarif's visit to Saudi Arabia, Akfham said thus far the time of the visit hasn't been determined.
Also speaking about former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani visit to Saudi Arabia, the spokeswoman said the delegation for the possible visit has not yet been assembled.
Rafsanjani, who is also Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council, said during his meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Nov. 27 that "the problems of Islamic world can be resolved by a comprehensive plan based on the fundamentals of Iran and Saudi Arabia cooperation".
It should be noted that Rafsanjani is one of the few Iranian political figures who has enjoyed good relations with Saudi leaders.
In an interview with the Financial Times which released on Nov. 26, he said he was ready to travel to Riyadh and had been invited by King Abdullah to perform last month's hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage.
Reportedly Rafsanjani is concerned of increasing tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
While Iran supports Lebanese Hezbollah and Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, Saudi Arabia is a key supporter of Syrian regime's armed opposition.
