The Georgian government is working on modernization of the railway section at Rikoti Pass.
On Dec. 6 the Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Giorgi Kvirikashvili told journalists that this issue was discussed at the Economic Council. The council's meeting of the was held on December 4.
The minister said that the project includes increasing the capacity of the railway section at Rikoti Pass.
"The council was established to address the major issues in the working format, because it is not possible to discuss all the issues in details at a government meeting," he said.
The council meeting held on Dec. 4 discussed several issues, Kvirikashvili said.
"In particular, we have reviewed the project on modernization of the railway at Rikoti Pass in order to increase its capacity, which at the moment stands at 15 million tonnes of cargo a year," the minister said.
