Iran and Austria plan to boost their trade and economic relations in the near future, Mehr news agency reported on Dec. 9.

The issue was discussed during a meeting between Iran's Deputy Industry, Mine, and Trade Minister Mohammad Doost-Hosseini and the visiting Austrian delegation.

"In the past few years, political disputes negatively influenced Iran's trade with European countries, but the recent improvement in the country's foreign relations has made it possible for Tehran to boost its economic relations with foreign countries," Doost-Hosseini said.

"Considering the two countries' potential, the bilateral trade is low," he said, calling for the expansion of ties.

Austrian Ambassador to Tehran, Friedrich Stift for his part said that Austrian businessmen can invest in Iran's oil, gas, petrochemical, food stuff, and medical sectors.

He also urged the Austrian banks to open LC lines for Iran's medicine imports.
