Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) is developing new methods for enhancing oil recovery at deep carbo-hydrogen fields.

Research is being conducted as a part of a grant from the Science Foundation of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), the institute told Trend on Monday.

Scientists are studying the problems arising in various processes, including clay swelling at high temperatures and pressures, associated deformation, tectonic faults and other factors, the project manager, Vice President of ANAS, Academic Secretary, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Akif Hajiyev said.

The project's objective is to develop efficient methods for the intensification of oil production and regulation, evaluation and creation of a mathematical model.

Some 90,000 manats (about $114,752) were allocated for the two-year project.
