Turkey and Iran can raise their trade turnover to $35 billion in the coming years, Iranian ambassador to Turkey Alireza Bikdeli said during the Iranian-Turkish economic forum held in Istanbul on Dec.11, Haberler newspaper reported.

Foreign trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $21.9 billion in 2012.

Despite of the embargo against Iran, Ankara has always maintained political and economic relations with Iran, according to the ambassador.

Earlier, Bikdeli talked about the negative impact of the embargo against Iran on economic relations with Ankara saying if the embargo against Iran had not been imposed, trade turnover between Ankara and Tehran could have reached $30 billion.

Iran lost $8 billion in trade relations with Turkey because of the embargo, the diplomat said.

Turkey's TUPRAS oil refining company imported around 130,000-140,000 barrels of Iranian oil per day in 2012 and the volumes of supplies amount to 105,000 barrels per day in 2013.

Turkey imported about 185,000 barrels of oil from Iran per day in 2011.
