Construction of the power transmission line connecting Georgia and Turkey, is one of the largest energy projects in the region, Georgian Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze said at the opening ceremony of the power transmission line and Akhaltsikhe substation on Dec.11.
"Today we celebrate the completion of one of the largest and most important projects in the region, which was the result of many years of close cooperation. We jointly with our Turkish and Azerbaijani counterparts were able to make a major infrastructure project that will establish a strong stable energy corridor of regional significance," Kaladze said.
The minister also added that as a result of construction in Akhaltsikhe of a high-tech substation and power transmission line, in addition to oil and gas it has become possible to transport electricity to the European markets.
"Our task is that the Georgian energy system plays one of the leading roles in the development of the country and region", the minister stressed.
Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Natig Aliyev, as well as representatives of the Georgian Cabinet of Ministers and international organisations attended the opening ceremony.
Additionally, around 15 Turkish businessmen interested in investing in Turkey's energy also participated at the event.
A power transmission line with a capacity of 400 kilovolts and the Akhaltsikhe substation were constructed within the Black Sea Power Transmission project, according to the data of Georgia's State Power System.
