Three personnel of Afghan intelligence agency were injured Sunday morning in a suicide bombing in Torkham, a bordering town in eastern Nangarhar province, along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, a provincial source said, Xinhua reported.

"A suicide bomber detonated his explosive-packet jacket near the front gateway of the city department of National Directorate for Security (NDS) in Torkham. The blast which took place at around 7:15 a.m. (local time) injured three NDS servicemen. The wounded people were shifted to nearby hospital," the provincial government spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai told Xinhua.

The force of the blast was absorbed by the blast walls, the spokesman said, adding "the injured persons did not suffer life- threatening wounds."

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but the Taliban insurgent group was likely behind such attacks.

The Afghan soldiers and police casualties have risen recently as the United States and NATO troops in Afghanistan switched from combat to support role, namely training, advising and assisting Afghan forces.

Afghan army and police took the full operational lead from U.S. and NATO troops in June.

The war-torn country is due to take over the leadership of its own security duties from foreign troops by the end of 2014.
