UN Security Council condemns chemical weapons use in Syria

The United Nations Security Council on Monday condemned the additional use of chemical weapons in Syria, calling for perpetrators of "war crimes" to be brought to justice, dpa reported.

"The council members strongly condemn the use of chemical weapons in any circumstances," Gerard Araud, the French ambassador and Security Council president, told reporters.

A team of UN inspectors confirmed Thursday that chemical weapons have probably been used at four additional locations in Syria, in addition to the confirmed August attack in the Ghouta area of Damascus. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon briefed the 15 council members on the new report.

"The secretary general and the council members have also called upon those responsible to be held accountable for such war crimes," Araud said.
