Issues with chassis was the reason for Saudi Arabian Airlines jet making an emergency landing in Medina city, Head of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization of Iran, Saeed Ovhedi said, IRIB News reported on Jan. 5.

"The back chassis wouldn't close, there was a technical problem," Ovhedi said, commenting on the issue. "Because of this, the plane had to fly over Medina for one hour for the fuel to run out, and then went for the emergency landing."

Ovhedi also said that 14 pilgrims were injured as a result of hard landing, and were taken to local hospital. One of the pilgrims is in bad condition.

Previous reports said 29 people were injured, 11 of which were taken to the hospital.

The plane, which was flying from Iran's Mashhad city to Medina, had 315 passengers on board, AFP quoted General Authority of Civil Aviation spokesman Khalid Al Khaybari on Jan 5.

Iran's head of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization also said that the Airbus plane was from Saudi Arabia, and that according to an agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the countries each carry out 50 percent of the Hajj flights.
