Dubai ruler calls on international community to end Iran sanctions

The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has called on the international community to lift its sanctions against Iran, BBC reported.

''Iran is our neighbour and we don't want any problems,'' said Sheikh Mohammed, who rarely gives interviews.

But with the United Arab Emirates hosting Expo 2020, and signs that it is rebounding from the world financial crisis, he has been speaking exclusively to the BBC's Jon Sopel in Dubai.

It should be noted that Iran and the P5+1 reached a nuclear agreement on Nov. 24. Iran has agreed to curb some of its nuclear activities for six months in return for sanctions relief.

The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies.

The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, using nuclear energy for medical researches instead.
