Turkey: Iraq unable to deliver oil to world markets via Syria

Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan.14
by Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Iraq will not be able to supply oil to the world markets via Syria, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz told journalists, TRT Haber TV Channel reported on Jan.14.

The minister said that Turkey has considered the opinion of the Iraqi government, but if the oil is supplied to world markets via Syria, such a project cannot be implemented as there is no stability in that country.

Stability is the key factor in the implementation of such energy projects, the minister stressed.

Earlier some Iraqi media reported that the central government intends to change the oil pumping route of the Kurdish autonomy which must pass through Turkey.

In addition, it was reported that Iraq-Syria-Lebanon and Iraq-Jordan-Israel may become new routes for oil transportation.

On January 3, 2014, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said that crude oil from Iraqi Kurdistan has started flowing via a new pipeline to Turkey, but will not be shipped to world markets without Bagdad's consent.

The minister also said that the received oil will be kept in storage until an agreement with Baghdad is reached.
