If there is no Iran in the list of participants in the Geneva II Peace Conference "this will remind us of profanation", Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, ITAR-TASS reported.

"At least 40 states, including Australia, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Brazil, India and Indonesia, have been invited to take part in the Geneva II Conference," Lavrov said, adding "If there is no Iran, this will remind us of profanation."

"The conference will be opened on January 22. It would be irresponsible to ignore the conference for those who will have a direct impact on the Syrian settlement," the Russian minister said.

"We uphold the approach by the U.N. Secretary-General who sent invitations to all countries, including Iran," he said.
