Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry has announced the number of hotels that passed state classification and received appropriate category of stars.

Only 48 hotels and hotel-type facilities in Azerbaijan passed state classification and operate in accordance with the relevant category of stars.

Some 19 hotels have five stars, 22 hotels - four stars, five hotels - three stars and two hotels have two stars, according to a message from Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry.

Some 15 hotels with five stars as well as 12 hotels with four stars and four hotels with three stars are located in Baku, the ministry said. The hotels belonging to the two stars category are located in regions of Azerbaijan.

The ministry said the 'star rating' is valid for three years.

The validity of the 'stars' of most hotels that passed the state classification expired in December 2013 and will end in January 2014.

These hotels passed classification in December 2010 and January 2011.

Currently, the ministry is reviewing applications submitted for reassignment of 'stars' to these hotels.

As of January-June 2013 Azerbaijan has 516 hotels and hotel-type facilities.
