Turkey's main opposition party strongly condemns the alleged atrocities by regime officials in Syria, its deputy chairman said Tuesday Anadolu News Agency reported.

Faruk Logoglu, deputy chairman of the Republican People's Party, was commenting on photographs obtained by Anadolu Agency that are said to show the systematic killing of nearly 11,000 detainees at the hands of Syrian regime forces.

"It is inevitable that Geneva-II will be affected by these photographs," Logoglu said, referring to an international peace conference on Syria scheduled to start Wednesday in the Swiss city of Montreux.

The aim of the conference is to find a political solution to the conflict in Syria.

"The aim is now clearer: the Syrian civil war must end immediately and a path that will put the country onto a stable track must be set down," Logoglu said.

More than 100,000 people have been killed in three years of conflict, which has also internally displaced more than 6.5 million people. More than two million Syrians are registered as refugees in Turkey, Lebanon and Iraq.
