Iranian foreign ministry has published a statement about Geneva 2 peace conference on Syria, saying that resolving terror problem in the country can prove legitimacy of the conference, Iran`s Fars news agency reported on Jan. 22.

The Geneva 2 peace conference is a proposed UN backed international conference which started in Geneva on Jan. 22 with the aim of ending the Syrian civil war.

On Jan. 20, Ban Ki-moon withdrew the invitation from Iran to participate in the conference after Tehran declared it does not support the June 2012 political transition deal that is the basis for the talks.

The Iranian foreign ministry also expressed serious concern about presence of terrorist groups in the Syria, adding that expanding the terrorism in the Syria is a threat to the region and beyond.

Syrian people's vote in a reassuring election mechanism is the certain democratic solution to the issue, according to the Iran's foreign ministry.

During the conflict in Syria which began in March 2011, more than 115,000 people were killed in the country and over 4.2 million became refugees in Syrian territory and two million fled to neighbouring countries.

Iran is a close ally of the Syrian government and it always shows its support for the regime of Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
