Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said it is possible to restore diplomatic relations between Iran and the U.S if both parties work towards this direction, RIA Novosti reported on Thursday.

While answering the question on the Swiss French-speaking RTS TV channel whether the U.S embassy will appear in Tehran, Rouhani said that no enmity lasts forever and no friendship lasts forever.
"We must transform enmity into friendship," he added.

Rouhani gave an interview in Davos on Wednesday where he arrived to attend the World Economic Forum. He said that relations with Washington were difficult in the past, but this problem can be overcome if efforts are made.

Diplomatic relations between Iran and the U.S ceased in 1980 after the U.S. embassy in Tehran was captured by radical Iranian students. Currently, U.S. interests in Iran are represented by the Swiss embassy.
