Several former senior officials of Georgia sentenced to imprisonment

Former high-ranking officials of the military police and correctional institutions of Georgia, namely, Megis Kardava, Alexandre Mukhadze, Oleg Patsatsia and Victor Kacheishvili have been sentenced to nine years of imprisonment each, according to Tbilisi City Court's decision.

Kokhta Kodua and Tornike Gunava have been sentenced to six years of imprisonment each, whereas, Zviad Kapanadze was imprisoned for two years.

Megis Kardava, the former head of Georgian military police, was acquitted in the case of torture and murder of Colonel Sergo Tetradze, but was found guilty of other criminal charges.

The former military intelligence and air force officer Sergo Tetradze was arrested on September 17, 2011.

He died in Gldani prison of a heart attack. But his family did not believe in the official version of his death and following changes in the Georgian government the prosecutor's office launched re-investigation.
