Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Jan.29
By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

In 2014 the Turkmen capital is to host a regional seminar on border management issues, the Turkmen government said in its statement on Jan.29.

The possibility of holding this event was discussed at a meeting of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry representatives with the international consultant of the U.N. Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, Sharbanu Tajbakhsh, the statement said.
The sides also discussed the process of implementation of the joint action plan for moving forward on the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia.

The implementation of the project, which is funded by the European Union and the Norwegian Government, is coordinated by the U.N. Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia headquartered in Ashgabat.

In October 2013, Ashgabat hosted a conference on the Central Asia Border Security Initiative (CABSI), which was initiated in 2003 by the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs of Austria. Its aim is to coordinate program activities and strategic objectives of the Program for Border Management in Central Asia (BOMCA), funded by the European Union.

At this stage, one of the key issues being discussed at such events are the possible effects of the reduction of international forces in Afghanistan on the situation in the field of border security and management of the northern border of Afghanistan.
