Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili introduced his adviser on national minorities at a meeting with the non-governmental sector on Wednesday. Greek born Sophio Shamanidi became the presidential adviser.

Representatives of 20 NGOs working in the field of protection of national minority rights attended the meeting.

While introducing Shamanidi, the president said that Georgia is a multinational country. Each ethnic community is important. Proceeding from this, he decided to appoint an advisor to better understand the problems of national minorities. The advisor will maintain close contact with national minorities.

Shamanidi said she intends to visit the regions of the country heavily populated by representatives of various national minorities.

Sophio Shamanidi is a professor of Greek philosophy, Ph.D. and author of many scientific papers. She is fluent in the Georgian language.
