The Iranian Fajr satellite has been designed to change its orbital position using thrusters, deputy head of Iran Space Agency, Hamid Fazeli said, Iranian ISNA news agency reported on Feb. 3.

Fajr, is an imaging and telecommunication satellite which is ready to be launched, Fazeli said, adding that along with Fajr, the Tadbir and Sharif Sat satellites are in the final stages of preparation and ready to be launched.

Iran will send one of the mentioned satellites into orbit by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2014), he underlined.

Fajr will have a life span of 1.5 years and an imaging resolution of 500-1000 meters. It is the first Iranian satellite to use a cold gas thruster and has solar panels.

Iran successfully launched its first indigenous data-processing satellite, Omid (Hope), into orbit in 2009.

As part of a plan to develop its space program, Iran also successfully launched its second satellite, dubbed Rassad (Observation), into the earth's orbit in June 2011.

Iran also launched its domestically-built Navid-e Elm-o Sanat (Harbinger of Science and Industry) satellite into orbit in February 2012.

The records made by the telecom, measurement and scientific satellite can be used in a wide range of fields.

The country is one of the 24 founding members of the U.N. Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space that was set up in 1959.
