Uzbek President Islam Karimov will pay a two-day visit to the Czech Republic in the third quarter of Feb. 2014, the Czech News Agency said.

Uzbek and Czech Presidents Islam Karimov and Milos Zeman will discuss the development of trade-economic cooperation, the visa regime between the two countries, as well as Uzbek students' education at the universities in the Czech Republic, according to the report.

The Uzbek president visited the Czech Republic in 1997.

The legal base of developing bilateral trade and economic relations was laid during the Uzbek president's official visit.

The agreement on mutual promotion and protection of investments, the agreement on cooperation between the Uzbek Ministry of External Relations, Investment and Trade and the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, the agreement on cooperation between the Uzbek National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity and the Commercial Bank of the Czech Republic were signed.

The then Czech Prime Minister and now President, Milos Zeman paid an official visit to Uzbekistan in April 1999. A joint declaration on "Further development of mutually beneficial cooperation" and an agreement on "International transportation of passengers and goods by vehicles" was signed following the visit.

Czech President Vaclav Klaus paid an official visit to Uzbekistan in 2004.

Some 19 enterprises are operating in Uzbekistan with some Czech capital. Eight of these companies have 100 percent Czech capital. The representative offices of ten Czech companies have been accredited under the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade.
