Some 40,000 people in Armenia stooped eating bread in 2013, MP from the "Prosperous Armenia", deputy chairman of the economic commission Michael Melkumian said on Feb.4, News.am website reported.

Such a conclusion can be drawn from the statistical data for January-December 2013, the MP said. The bread production in Armenia decreased by 3,900 tons from 296,800 to 292,900 tons compared to 2012.

"If we take the average daily consumption of 300-330 grams of bread per person per day, it can be concluded that the Armenian population who eats bread has decreased by 40,000 people," Melkumian said.

The MP also pointed out that the statistical data shows that jobs in small enterprise are declining.

"We lost some 1,000 small business jobs in 2013," Melkumian said.

Some 116 of 2,000 largest industrial enterprises account for 80 percent of total production.
