Azerbaijan Railway CJSC will conduct full reconstruction of the power supply system, signaling and communications over the next four years on the Baku-Boyuk Kesik line in the western direction, according to information issued by the railway on Feb. 6.
The work will be conducted within the framework of the state program on development of Azerbaijani railways for 2010-2014.
The railway has already started the creation of the signaling system managed by a microprocessor from a unified center.
According to the information, the work will be conducted by the Swiss company Bombardier.
In November-December, specialists of Azerbaijani Railways together with Bombardier prepared the technical conditions for conducting work within the framework of the first stage, which will cover the Boyuk Kesik - Ganja section. Design and installation work is now being conducted in this area.
The Swiss company will conduct the work stage by stage and in the direction of Boyuk Kesik in Baku, railway spokesperson, Nadir Azmammadov told Trend on Feb. 6.
"In turn, the head office will be located in Baku," he noted.
In December 2013, Azerbaijani Railway completed the repair of 317kilometers on the route Baku - Boyuk Kesik. This work was also conducted within the framework of the state program on development of the country's railway system.
In accordance with the state program, steps on upgrading wagon and locomotive parks, rebuilding of roads, power supply system, signaling and communications, shift from temporary to permanent running on the Baku - Boyuk Kasik route, modernization of technical facilities and implementation of other important tasks are being taken.
The main purpose of the state program is to provide effective activity of the transport complex by increasing the transit potential of Azerbaijan, increasing the level of railway transport services and reducing transport expenditures while transporting passengers and loads.
