Two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip hit southern Israel on Thursday, causing no injuries or damage, said a local police spokesperson, Xinhua reported.

Mickey Rosenfeld told Xinhua that an alarm went off on Thursday evening in the city of Ashkelon, south Israel, and security forces searched for the remains of the rockets but failed to find anything.

The spokesperson added that it is possible that a military operation was involved in the interception of the rockets.

The Walla! news website reported that an Iron Dome anti-missile battery deployed in the area intercepted at least one of the two rockets.

The Israeli Defense Forces Spokesperson Unit said they are still looking into the details of the incident.

Another alarm went off in the area at noon but there were no reports of any landing of rockets.
