The government of Kazakhstan has set fixed prices for bread wheat, the country's Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov said on Feb.17 at a meeting in Astana on the issues of fulfilment of the Kazakh president's orders declared at an expanded government meeting on Feb.14.
Ways of preventing a price hike for bread were discussed at the state commission's meeting last week, according to the prime minister.
"A decision was adopted to provide the regions' flour mills with food grain from state resources at fixed prices. We have determined the price at 30,000 tenge ($1=184.51 tenge) per ton of food grain," the prime minister said.
It was earlier reported that the National Bank of Kazakhstan declared the devaluation of tenge at approximately by19 percent on Feb.11. The country's President Nursultan Nazarbayev issued an order at the government meeting on Feb.14 measures to prevent the price hike for socially important foods.
During the meeting, Akhmetov also emphasised the necessity of ensuring the stability of prices for the main types of foods and socially important goods such as lubricants and pharmaceuticals,, as well as to prevent product shortage and unjustified growth of tariffs for monopolists. Additionally, tariffs for communal services will be frozen until May 1 in Kazakhstan.
"Concrete measures have already been determined and now it is time to implement them and establish tight control over their application," the prime minister added.
