Data on Internet users in Turkey will be provided to the authorities only by a court decision, the Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communication of Turkey, Lutfi Elvan said, the Turkish Anadolu news agency reported on Feb. 19.

The new law on censorship of the Internet in the country does not violate the rights of users, according to the minister.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul ratified a draft law on censor of the Internet on Feb.18.

The opponents of strengthening control of the internet in Turkey believe that the new law gives the government the ability to block the country's websites without court order, as well as oblige ISPs to provide authorities with information about users.

Police dispersed demonstrators in Taksim Square protesting against the draft law on the control over the Internet on Feb.8 in Istanbul.
