Istanbul police have detained four people for stealing 50 tons of gold from historical Byzantine ruins, the Turkish "Milliyet" newspaper reported.
After receiving information on illegal excavation in the basement of the atelier and extraction of 50 tons of gold, the police arrested four people, the newspaper says.
At present, Istanbul police are conducting an investigation.
