Majlis (parliament) of Turkmenistan is preparing for the next meeting on March 1, 2014, during which a number of bills will be considered, a message from the government of Turkmenistan said on Feb.22.

It is expected that the documents on the issues such as strengthening the rule of law and order, the activities of the stock exchange and exchange trade, the country's budget system, science and technology policy, the protection of nature will be discussed.

At the last meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the chairman of the Majlis (parliament) Akja Nurberdieva informed about the activities of the parliament on further modernization the country's legal basis, Turkmenistan's Altyn Asir TV channel said on Feb.22.

"Having been informed, the Turkmen leader drew Nurberdieva's attention on the need to rely on the strategic goals and priorities of national development, its task at the present stage, as well as the universally recognized norms of international law in legislative work, directing MPs towards promotion of innovational processes in the country," the TV channel said.

Under the Turkmen constitution, the parliament passes laws, makes changes and additions to the Turkmen constitution, approves the state budget, resolves the issues on holding referendums and announces presidential and parliamentary elections.

It also considers the issues on the appointment and dismissal of the chairman of the Supreme Court, attorney general, interior minister and minister of justice and ratifies and terminates international treaties, resolves the issues to change the state borders and the administrative-territorial division of Turkmenistan.
