On February 27, Azercell Telecom held a regular annual press conference dedicated to the results of 2013, which was earlier declared the Year of ICT in Azerbaijan, according to a message from the company.

Azercell said that 2013's main achievement was a 20 percent expansion of the network, which is explained by an unprecedented growth in demand for the company's services, and especially for the mobile internet.

So in 2013, Azercell Telecom installed over 1,200 new base stations in order to provide uninterrupted quality of voice and internet services throughout Azerbaijan.

Thus, in late 2013, the Azercell Telecom's network included 5,500 base stations. Over 260 of them were exclusively allocated for the LTE (4G) network, covering the city of Baku and Absheron peninsula.

The LTE network along with the high-speed internet also supports voice communication through the CSFB solutions.

Azercell provides the highest speed of mobile internet in Azerbaijan, according to Ookla Net Index measurement data for 2013.

Moreover, the increase in mobile internet use among Azercell customers stands at over 120 percent, while each second subscriber actively uses the mobile internet, the company said.

Azercell believes that the efforts and investments directed to expansion in 2013 are due to the need in maintaining and increasing the quality of services rendered for current customers and for those subscribers, who will join 4.5 million customers of the company, following the recent launch of the mobile number portability (MNP) service.

2013 was also a remarkable year for Azercell thanks to some other innovations in Azerbaijan's telecommunications market, such as the integration of ASAN-Imza platform with mobile technology that enables signing documents and transactions using mobile devices.

Aside from that, during the last year's 'Bakutel' exhibition Azercell presented its unique innovation based on M2M technology project - 'Smart House', a system allowing to remotely controlling all household processes via mobile devices, according to the company.

Along with the new more attractive 3G and 4G bundles the company also introduced in 2013 a variety of other interesting solutions, such as regional campaigns, permanent, attractive regional tariff plan, a variety of discount campaigns, as well as roaming discounts.

In 2013 the company also reduced prices for roaming calls to over 100 operators' networks worldwide.

Constantly improving the level of customer service the company continued expanding its service centers both in Azerbaijan's capital and in regions.

Today over 560 different offices of the company throughout Azerbaijan are ready to provide customers with a full range of customer services.

Currently Azercell's mobile network covers 99.8 percent of the country's population and the number of subscribers has increased up to 4.5 million.

In 2013, the company paid taxes worth 111 million manats to the state budget (one billion manats during 17 years of operation).

Some 84.5 million manats were invested last year for development of telecommunications sector in Azerbaijan (one billion manats during 17 years of operation).

As in the previous years, Azercell has remained the country's largest taxpayer in the non-oil sector, the mobile operator said.

Throughout 2013 the company invested one million manats to the professional development of its employees.

In 2013 Azercell also paid great attention to social projects, spending 0.4 million manats in this area and also supported the first ever project designed for boarding schools in Azerbaijan, alongside with many other interesting initiatives.

Barama Innovation Center, which supports the development of young generation, has implemented two major international start-up competitions for young entrepreneurs.

In 2013, Azercell retained the title of the most popular brand in the social networks having the highest ratio for online customer services, according to the rating from the social media analytics platform - Socialbakers.

Azercell has successfully continued its activities in 2014, introducing the MNP, developing and presenting new rates and discount campaigns in favour of both current and future subscribers.

Azercell Telecom LLC was founded in 1996 and since its first years has been holding a leading position in the market.

Azercell introduced a number of technological innovations in Azerbaijan: GSM technology, GPRS/EDGE, 24/7 Customer Care, 'Azercell Express' offices, 'ASAN Imza' (ASAN signature) mobile e-service and others.

With 53 percent share of Azerbaijan's mobile market, Azercell's network covers 99.8 percent of the country's population. By late 2012 the number of Azercell's subscribers reached 4.5 million people.

Azercell deployed 3G and 4G (LTE) networks in Azerbaijan in 2011 and 2012 respectively. The company is the leader of Azerbaijan's mobile communication industry and the biggest investor in the non-oil sector.

Azercell is a part of the TeliaSonera Group of Companies, which has subsidiaries in over 20 countries with total number of 186 million subscribers and 27,000 employees.
