Turkey faces acute shortage of doctors

Baku, Azerbaijan, March 3

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Turkey faces an acute shortage of doctors, Turkish Deputy Health Minister Zafer Cukurova said on March 3, according to Anadolu news agency.

Cukurova said over 2000 Turkish doctors are working abroad, and now the ministry is negotiating with them, for them to return to the country.

He also said the country has created all necessary conditions for the work of doctors.

It should be noted that in December, 2013, Ankara urged Turkish doctors working abroad to return home.

It was also reported that Turkey currently needs over 20,000 doctors.

Earlier Turkish Health Minister, Mehmet Muezzinoglu said 7,000 Greek doctors were invited to work in Turkey due to the economic crisis in Greece.

This year 68 Azerbaijani doctors also started to work in Turkey's health sector.

In 2013 some 443 foreign doctors appealed to the ministry to work in Turkey's healthcare sector.
