Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced his readiness to quit politics if the ruling party does not win the municipal elections, Turkish 'Anadolu' news agency reported on March 5.

"I directly and openly declare: I am ready to retire from politics, in case the Justice and Development Party will not be the first in these elections," Erdogan said.

Turkey will hold municipal elections on March 30, 2014.

It is expected that the main struggle in the elections will be between the Justice and Development Party and the Republican People's Party.
