The growth rate of Turkmenistan's GDP amounted to 10.3 percent in Jan.-Feb. 2014, according to a message from the government of Turkmenistan published on March 6.
"Turkmenistan's national economy continues to grow steadily in 2014. The GDP indicator hit 10.3 percent. The growth rate of industry amounted to 8.9 percent, construction sector - 15 percent, transport and communication - 14.8 percent. Other spheres of the country's economy have also developed with high rates," the message from the Turkmen government said.
Turkmenistan holds a key position in the region for natural gas supply. The importers of Turkmen gas are Russia, China and Iran.
Turkmenistan's GDP growth rate generally meets the expectations of the international financial institutions. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) indicated in its forecasts that economic growth in Turkmenistan will reach 10.7 percent in 2014.
Turkmenistan's GDP growth amounted to 10.2 percent in 2013, according to official statistics.
