A court in Turkey's eastern province of Malatya has rejected a release appeal from another 'Ergenekon' detainee, retired general Hursit Tolon.

Tolon's attorney, Ilkay Sezer, was speaking to Anadolu Agency on Thursday.

Tolon had been sentenced to life imprisonment in August 2013 in connection with the 'Ergenekon' case, an alleged coup attempt to depose Turkey's government, but a court in Istanbul ordered his release in connection with that case on Tuesday.

However, Tolon remains in detention in connection with another case - the murder of three 'Zirve Publishing House' employees who were stabbed to death in Malatya in April 2007.

Sezer said he had issued an appeal for his client's release but it had been unanimously rejected. He claims that Tolon is being detained on "baseless declarations".

Meanwhile, Bedirhan Sinal, who was imprisoned over a petrol bomb attack on the offices of the Cumhuriyet newspaper in 2008, was released by a court in Istanbul on Thursday after completing a 5-year maximum detention period.
