Kazakh President, Nursultan Nazarbayev and UK Prime Minister, David Cameron discussed the internal political situation in Ukraine during a phone conversation at the initiative of the UK side, Kazakhstan's presidency said on March 14.

"The leaders of the two countries confirmed the need for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis through diplomatic negotiations and the use of possible mechanisms of international mediation," Kazakhstan's presidency said.

The parties also stressed that the current situation should be settled with peaceful means though restoring all basic norms of international law in Ukraine.

During the phone conversation the parties also discussed the status and prospects of Kazakh-UK relations, including the process of implementation of the agreements reached within Cameron's state visit to Kazakhstan in July, 2013.

During the conversation, the parties also exchanged views on the issues of international policy, including the preparation for the upcoming Global Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague on March 24-25.
