Georgia and the European Union discussed wide scope of relations during the visit of Georgian Parliament's Speaker David Usupashvili to Belgian capital of Brussels.

Usupashvili met with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule, Georgian parliament's press service said on March 22.

During the meeting a special emphasis was placed upon a statement made by the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, who said the EU intends to sign the association agreement with Georgia and Moldova two months earlier than planned, that is, by June.

The parties also discussed current developments in Georgia, noting the importance of the EU monitoring mission's presence in the country.

Usupashvili also met with the NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. During the meeting the parties discussed Georgia's integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.

Usupashvili said Georgia needs progress in the integration to NATO.

In turn, Rasmussen expressed full support for Georgia's aspirations to NATO and said the organization will review its relations with Russia.

"We need to strengthen support for Ukraine and convince allies that the situation needs to be monitored," Rasmussen said.
