Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met with his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama and discussed issues related to the further strengthening and development of bilateral trade and economic relations, a spokesperson from Acorda (residence of Kazakhstan's president) said.

Nursultan Nazarbayev pointed out that around 300 joint Kazakh-U.S. enterprises operate in Kazakhstan and this shows the dynamic cooperation in the trade and economic spheres. Moreover the U.S. is one of the largest investors in Kazakhstan's economy, according to Nazarbayev.

The Kazakh president stressed that his country is interested in active participation with U.S. companies in the industrial-innovative development programme.

Additionally, during the negotiations the parties discussed Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and topical issues of the international agenda.

The U.S. president highlighted Kazakhstan's great contribution to the nuclear disarmament issue and stressed that the country is an example for all states in this sphere. In addition, Obama gave thanks for Kazakhstan's contribution to the stabilisation of the situation in Afghanistan.
